Bills 2009, What Gives?

The first four games have reeked with disappointment for Bills fans. The question now is, will the team find its way as the season progresses or has the combination of poor coaching, injuries and inherent weaknesses combined to doom the Bills to their worst season in years?

Blame the Management...

We say it is coaching and management. There will be no significant changes for the good without a full housecleaning from Brandon on down. Best to start now to be in position to make a serious run next year. Send us your thoughts.

TORONTO BILLS? ONE STEP CLOSER? NOT NECESSARILY

There's been a lot said about the second "home" game in Toronto and what it portends for the Bills future in Buffalo. See our archive for the original article we wrote on this. After having time to reflect on this question and listen to a lot of discussion and debate, we've changed our minds. We need to start thinking about Buffalo and Toronto as sister cities, both part of the same Mega Region, sociologist Richard Florida calls "Tor-Buff-Chester."

See our article at Bleacher Report.

 What do you think?

A BILLS FANS' ADVISORY BOARD?

In an email conversation with a very spirited ExPat, Joelle Jensen, the idea was raised to establish a Bills Fans Advisory Board at One Bills Drive. Why not? Wouldn't the management like to hear directly from a representative sampling of fans, regarding the very things we opine about on this page? Keeping or firing the coach, extending the contract, free agents to sign or not sign, even whether or not to go back to the original uniforms (see Throwback, below) as many teams have done recently, are all topics many of us would love to discuss face to face with team management. We're no naieve enough to think that they would change anything based on our advice, but we're Bills fans after all, and anything is always possible. In the "You miss 100% of the shots you never take," category, we will be approaching the Bills Front Office in the near future to propose this idea. Anyone interested in helping, please respond here.

...and a GM job is what he seems to prefer at this point. We need him. He needs Buffalo. So... imagine Cowher holding the same trophy, wearing a Bills cap. Imagine. Imagine. Visualize. If you can dream it, you can do it.  Yes we can!

Head Coach Turner Gill (The only question, can he do it in the NFL?)
We think he can win in the NFL. He can win anywhere he coaches. And he's perfect for the Bills, for a quintessential underdog team like the Bills. Give Coach Gill the current personnel on the Bills roster, teach them to "Believe in things not yet seen," "Never quit, compete to the end," and "Continue your swagger," get him establishing "Story Hour" at Bills practices so players and coaches are bonded at a deeper level, and start planning your trip to the Super Bowl. Is Turner Gill Jauron's Replacement?

An article at BRO (Buffalo Rising Online) suggests the best way to keep UB Coach Turner Gill is to hire him as Jauron's replacement. What do you think?

Offensive Coordinator (and Unofficial Future Head Coach) Jim Kelly  (He called his own plays, why couldn't he coach?) Let him start as Gill's Offensive Coordinator. With success at that role, he could fill the next head coaching vacancy.

Since this article was written, a couple of other notables, such as Brian Billick and Jon Gruden became available. Mike Holmgren has announced is eagerness to get back in the game. We certainly wouldn't turn them down if they were intersted.

And a job for Jauron?
As one who lived through him in Chicago and now in Buffalo, the only thing to do with this guy is put him somewhere he can't do any more harm-- like maybe Alcatraz. -jwh-

GOOD BYES: Lou and Jack

Bills fans over fifty have taken their lumps in the past few weeks. With the news of Jack Kemp's passing within weeks of his cancer diagnosis, we have now lost two legends from the Bills first Glory Days. Kemp joins his coach, Lou Saban in the afterlife. We'll miss them both. Great for the Bills, great for humanity. Two gentlemen, heroes, and role models. Tribute page.

THROWBACK

If you agree with me that the classic look suits the Bills best, join me in an email assault of One Bills Drive and demand that we pull a Jets move and go back to the throwbacks. See Confessons of an Ex-Pat for more commentary on this. Email the Bills to demand that the throwback becomes the permanent uniform.
