New Restaurants

When in town, check out Stillwater, in the former Lord Chumley's space, and The Chocolate Bar on Chippewa just west of Delaware (south side of the street). Brodo may not be so new but they are adding new space for take out only at 501 Main Street Downtown, which will be open this Spring. And for a unique cafe: Sweetness7.

 Stillwater

If you're looking for a great dining experience for lunch or dinner, Stillwater is a must. Enjoy the faux star-sky ceiling and intimate dining areas on the second floor, where the cuisine is just as fabulous.

The Chocolate Bar

This place has more than just dessert and drinks, although the desert and drinks are fantastic. They offer a great lunch menu, and jazz certain nights, but you definitely go there for the delicious chocolate and equally scrumptous urban minmalist ambience.  Or... if you want a more substantial meal with a similar ambience, step next door to...

Papaya.

This may be the best Thai food in Buffalo. If there's any better, we want to know about it.

Brodo "Soup and Wine Bar" near the UB South Campus in Snyder at 4548 Main Street offers fantastic upscale casual ambience and the food and service are fantastic. They are also located on Elmwood and you can get your soup to go, as the logo declares. Add Brodo to your homecoming itinerary.

Sweetness 7 on Grant Street.

You'll never do Starbucks again. This local cafe has the look and feel of Paris. Coffees and typical cafe beverages are all presented lovingly, passionately, to customers lost in wi-fi heaven when they're not lost in Sweetness 7 Heaven. No wonder certain well-known Buffalo luminaries hold court here, at the big butcherblock table. See the story in BuffaloRisingOnline.

Newsworthy Restaurants

The Quaker Bonnet (see ad above) comes highly recommended, especially for comfort food. I've never had mac and cheese in a restaurant in my life, until I was encouraged to try it on a recent visit to the Quaker Bonnet. Now I find myself craving it-- not Mac & Cheese. Their Mac & Cheese.

Be prepared to see local luminaries when you dine at this conveniently located Allentown eatery. For one, it is rumored to be a favorite of Buffalo Philharmonic Conductor, JoAnn Falletta, and not just because they close the place when the BPO is performing.

And of course there is the retail store, offering their own label products including chips, sauces, books, posters, and miscellanea.

Does anyone have better Beef on Weck than Schwabl's?
