Well-Kept Secret

We all know what most people with no connection to Buffalo do not, that Buffalo is a cultural center. We all know about the Albright-Knox, Shea's, Studio Arena, the Philharmonic, ArtPark and the rest. We may not know about some great novels written about the city by local or native authors, and about places to enjoy or purchase a piece of contemporary Buffalo culture. We will offer a growing sample of such gems over time. For now, here's a good start (below).

And once you've looked at our site, here's one that has 1400 pages of WNY culture: Mark Donnelly's Cultural Niagara .  You'll be glad you made the extra click.

A Buffalo Coffee Table Book

Speaking of Mark Donnelly, look below, or go to Buffalo Bookshelf for more about his great book, The Fine Art of Capturing Buffalo.

An expat's dream come true. Browse Mike Mulley's collection of framed and unframed photography of the Buffalo that is and the Buffalo that was at Queen City Gallery, and for less than the price of a nice dinner where you're living now, take something home you can hang in your office or living room.

Another ExPat Writer...
Have you heard of Jack Spiegelman? This guy's a real character. He's been away from Buffalo most of his life, but like most expats, still thinks of himself in Buffalo terms. Check his website, which he calls Bflo Writer. You'll learn about his seven books, his other exploits, and have an opportunity to contribute to his retirement fund.

CLASSICAL PERFORMANCES

Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra

From Michael Tilson Thomas to Jo Ann Falletta, still a world class orchestra, still a world class operation. Worth hearing when you're in town. Worth supporting even if you're not.
