Employment Alchemy:
Turning Pink to Green

Here's the glass-half-full spin on the recession. Every time you hear that so-many thousand jobs are eliminated by this corporation or that company, think that same number of new businesses, new companies, entrepreneurs seizing the opportunity of their lay offs to create the businesses they always wanted to create, to be their own boss, to make this their last pink slip. From now on at this site, we'll be calling these pioneers, Pink Slip Entrepreneurs.

So if you're going to take advantage of 6-12 months of unemployment to send that trial flag up the pole, to hone that buisness plan... why do it in your current home in California or Chicago or Charlotte or Downstate New York. Now you can do it anywhere. You're the boss. It's your company, your business, your dream. Why not set up your new coprpoate headquarters in your garage or basement or spare bedroom in your new home in Buffalo-- just as much space and luxury for what-- half the price, a quarter of the price? Even less? And as you start your new business, what about the cost of labor? Buffalo is one of the lowest cost sources of labor in the nation.

How have you increased your chances of success by cutting your overhead? Make sense?

We'd like to hear from those who are considering this.  Let us know the plan.

Telecommuting?

If you can work from anywhere, why not work from Buffalo-Niagara? The number of employers who are allowing their employees to work online is growing. The number of jobs that can be done in cyberspace is growing. If you are fortunate enough to have a job you can do from anywhere, have you thought about coming back to Buffalo? If not, why not? Compare the size and cost of your current home to a comparable home in Buffalo. How much could you lower your mortgage payments? Compare the overall cost of living. Compare the lack of traffic congestion to the traffic situation where you live. Might it be worth a second thought?

Business Week: Buffalo One of Top Twenty Places to Ride out the Recession our comment

Buffalo-Niagara: The New Silicon Valley?
Don't laugh, it is and will be. The last recession was a result of the transition from an industrial economy to an information/service economy. So what is the transition this time? From information/service to an entrepreneurial economy

As noted in the opposite column, Buffalo, due to its rank near the national bottom in housing costs, labor costs, general costs of living makes Buffalo-Niagara and Western New York an ideal place to start a business or a company. It is also an ideal place to relocate a company.

There are numerous projects underway in  Buffalo as we type that are focusing on concentrating research, development, and prototyping of sustainable businesses.  There are plans in development to establish the ideal economic, regulatory, and overall climate to incubate outside of the box business plans, to nurture new approaches to business and commerce that capitalize on the current economic realities and win by providing goods and services that are in demand in the current economy, and/or that will help us upgrade our technology and infrastructure to accomodate the latest scientific breakthroughs and the latest social design components for successful ventures.

It is time we all start thinking terms like Silicon Valley in the same context as Buffalo. There is enough of this type of planning and experimentation going on in Buffalo already that we can expect Buffalo to emerge as the best new place to live, to work, to develop a business, to relocate a sustainable company, or to work independently.

The New Economy is destined to emerge in Buffalo. Buffalo is destined to be the center of the new economic universe. Get in the flow, or be left out!

Let us help you be a part of
Buffalo's next great era.
