THE TORONTO BILLS? ONE STEP CLOSER?

The
March 24th issue of The Buffalo News reports that the Bills and Rogers
Communications are close to agreement on playing two regular season
home games in the Rogers Centre in 2010, 11, & 12. (See link on
our news
page.) The argument from the front office is that this helps reinforce
the Bills in Buffalo. It isn't difficult to be skeptical. The team
reportedly receives almost ten million dollars per game played in
Toronto. With the seeming lukewarm reception the first Bills game
received in that venue, we wonder why Rogers is so hot to increase
their involvement, unless they have ulterior motives for a more
complete and permanent move. We don't think cheating our fans out of
two local games a year helps the team in the long run. What do you think?
T.O. IN BUFFALO?

In the Be Careful what you Wish For department...
In an article posted here last week (below) we asked why not sign
Marvin Harrison and Michael Vick? We suggested the Bills need to make
some Hail Mary passes in the personnel department in order to fast
track the team to the next Superbowl before a possible end of the
salary cap destroys parity and perhaps also leads to the team's
departure from Buffalo.
Instead of Harrison and Vick we get TO?
Could he be the worst of both players without enough of a strong side
to offset? It has certainly given the BIlls an immediate boost in
attention from the national press. If the coaching staff and leading
players can find a way to massage and manage T.O.'s infamous toxic ego,
this could be the ticket. It may also be the biggest IF in the history
of the use of the word.
Thus far TO has managed
to contaminate every team he's played for. The best thing that can be
said for this move is that it shows the BIlls are thinking the way
we've been thinking. To our delightful surprise, they apparently are
willing to make at least one bold personnel move. Someone in the front
office must have thought this could work. The Bills, of all teams,
aren't inclined to flush six million down the toilet. As we mentioned
on our news page, at least one neutral journalist thinks likewise. If
you haven't checked it out yet, here's another link to Vinnie Lyer's
column in Sporting News.
Here's the latest Bills news from The Buffalo News.
Now Available... (In light of the T.O. Announcement, we leave this article for context.)
Could Michael Vick be the Next Jim Kelly, Marvin Harrison the next James Lofton? Well, they're on the market!
Michael
Vick is due to be released from prison before the start of the season,
and it is believed the Falcons will either trade him or cut him. Marvin
Harrison will not be re-signed by the Colts. Should the Bills be in the
game for these talents? We think they should. When we think of Marvin
Harrison as an acquisition we think of other wide receivers picked up
at or just past their peak such as James Lofton. And could Vick be the
next Jim Kelly? His experience & development is not that far from
where Kelly was, coming from the USFL. Sure, Edwards is good, may or
may not be great, may or may not be injury prone, and Vick is tainted,
but... what if....??? No matter what you decide about Michael Vick, we
should be bidding for Harrison. Agree, Disagree?
