2008-09 A GREAT YEAR FOR UB SPORTS
The Women's basketball Bulls surprised everyone with a first round victory in the MAC tournament. The Bulls eventually lost to Ball State in a hard-fought semi-final game.
The Men's basketball Bulls, under coach Reggie Witherspoon, began the MAC season at 8-4. After spending most of the season at the top of the conference, the Bulls entered the MAC Tournament as the third seed, enjoying a BYE in the first round, and defeating Kent State in the second round. The Bulls ended up losing a hard fought championship game to Akron. Their twenty wins tied their season best, a few years ago, also under Reggie Witherspoon. This after finishing last, last season.

A TRIBUTE TO UB FOOTBALL BULLS AND COACH TURNER GILL
Upon his arrival at UB in 2005 Coach Gill told his players, "believe in things not yet seen," and "UB now stands for You Believe." His first goal was to eradicate the culture of defeat. He told his players, "Continue your swagger." He told them, "Never quit. Compete to the end." He instituted "Story Time." Everyone on the team , players and coaches alike, was required to stand up in front of the group and tell their life story. Gill says he wanted to team to get to know each other "at a deeper level." The International Bowl will be the Bulls' first Bowl apperance, but not their first Bowl invitation. The only other invitation came to the legendary 1958 team, who ended up having to decline the invitation to stand in solidarity with two team members not invited. More on our Did you Know?
